Today marks International Women's Day; what better time to think about the contributions of women in peace-building efforts? These days the role of women is ever more central to the conversation in peace and social justice movements. As we have seen in the global Women’s Marches and the Israeli-Palestinian Women Wage Peace group (who held an event at NS/WaS last October).
What lessons can be learned from the experiences of Jewish and Palestinian Israeli women who work together for peace? How can we build on these lessons to best prepare the next generation of Jewish and Palestinian Israelis through educational programmes?
Over a series of talks this March, our guests Samah Salaime and Adi Lustigman will address these questions by drawing on their work and their experience of life in Neve Shalom / Wahat al-Salam. Both women have dedicated their careers to advancing peace and social justice; and both women moved their young families to NS/WaS over a decade ago in order to raise their children in an environment of peace and equality.
The Oxford Friends of Oasis of Peace will be holding a conversation with Samah and Adi on Women's Role in Peacemaking.
